Shakespeare meets Kylie Minogue

Last night I got a particular treat after act of a toothsome dinner at a cosy pub in Surry Hills, Sydney at the Shakespeare Hotel.

The lamb shank at Shakespeare`s made my mouth water just look at it. I regret not carrying a bottle of Hot Chili Sauce in my bag to dip it in.

Would have been a delightful combination.

After dinner I got my second surprise treat, floor tickets to the Kylie Minogue concert!

This morn I decided I would see for a lamb recipe to make this weekend. While searching for a recipe I couldn`t get the song Can`t Get You Out Of My Mind by Kylie Minogue out of my head. Ironic.

I remembered the list of the present last night was Aphrodite, so I was divine to build a Greek dish. Gourmet Morsels has some international spices and blends, which is how I came across the Greek Gyros Mix. So my roommates are leaving to be getting Greek Lamb Gyros this weekend. Yum!

Lip Lickin' Lamb Gyros

Ingredients

  • 450g Lean Ground Lamb
  • 1 Large Tomato
  • 1 Small Onion
  • 4 Pita Breads
  • 2 cloves Crushed Garlic
  • 1 1/2 tsps Crushed Dried Oregano Leaves
  • 1 tsp Onion Powder
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 3/4 tsp Pepper
  • 1 Greek Gyros Mix
  • Cucumber Yogurt Sauce:
  • 240ml Plain Low Fat Yogurt
  • 1/3 cup Seeded & Chopped Cucumber
  • 2 tbsps Finely Chopped Onion
  • 1 clove Crushed Garlic
  • 1 tsp Granulated Sugar

Cooking Directions

  1. Prepare Cucumber Yoghurt Sauce by mixing ingredients in a medium bowl; cover and refrigerate.
  2. In large bowl, combine lamb seasoning ingredients; mix for 2 minutes or until very well-blended.
  3. Shape into two oval 1/2 inch thick patties.
  4. Rub Greek Gyros Mix on.
  5. Place patties on rack in broiler pan so meat is 3-4 inches from heat.
  6. Broil 8-10 minutes or until no longer pink and juices run clear, turning once.
  7. Carve patties into thin slices.
  8. Place equal amounts of lamb, tomato and onion in each pita half; serve with cucumber Yoghurt Sauce.

Hope you love it as often as I enjoyed the events that got me to this idea:)
