Kylie's legacy: The Cartomancer. Pages 6.66

On the 4th floor, the lights were on, but just the cerulean emergency lights. This resulted in light, and yet darkness, sharing the same space. Water was not what brought ruin to this forsaken place, where eaten corpses littered the floor, and the walls and objects within were not spared from the carnage. Every wall looked amethyst, due to all the red blood on the wall.

Someone had taken a mark and re-wrote the house on the intensive care unit to say the beyond all care unit. A firm security lock had been installed, but the doorway was wide open, and every single aim in that way had been thrown about. Near to the intensive care unit was a green room, where all sorts of games could be played. They were all scattered, with pieces smashed, and covered in blood.

Alexander was wait in the green room, holding Jupiter`s leash. Jupiter looked down out the window, while Alexander tried to play checkers, but had to replace some of the ruined and missing checkers with chess pieces.

"It`s your move, Jupiter," Alexander said.

"Do you see what I see," Jupiter asked? His part was very sing-song.

"What do you mean . . ." Alexander asked? He stood up and walked over to the windows, noticed Jupiter had pulled back the curtain halfway, and bristled like a cat meeting a dog. "What are you doing? Close that at once!"

"Elves traipsing about," Jupiter said. "I see ten men, perhaps twelve." Alexander joined him at the window. There were, indeed, off in the distance, ten Elvish navy officers walking around the island.

"I question if they`ve seen any of these things yet," Alexander suggested.

"Perhaps it`s only an isolated incident," Jupiter stated. Then he smiled, wickedly. "What if the sea water did destroy virtually all of them? This point can be reclaimed, rebuilt. Perhaps if the boy were to use his magic on the island itself . . ."

"It`s possible . . . wait a second. What am I listening to you for? You`re a murderer, to both my Prime Minister and her sister, a Queen." Alexander drew out his weapon. "Why don`t I just kill you right here?"

"Ahem," Kennedy interjected.

"Yes," Alexander asked?

"I checked out the intensive care unit," Kennedy said. "It appeared to be where they started putting the patients with the zombie disease. There was a very powerful lock installed on the door, but it wasn`t breached and the threshold was wide open."

"What does that mean," Alexander asked?

"Obviously it`s where they were stuffing the zombies," Jupiter barked. "Clearly they tried to block too many in there, and when they open the doorway to let more in, the others escaped . . ."

"And claimed the hospital," Kennedy said. "It would excuse a lot of why no one was left here if their barriers and defenses didn`t hold, or if they didn`t even expect anything to escape from this top floor. You love how people can be, thinking because the primary way in is gone, that they`ve got nothing to fear. They wouldn`t make that any way out is a way in, too, and . . ."

"Enough," Jupiter shouted!

"Come forth from that window," Alexander ordered! He stepped away, pulling Jupiter with him.

"What`s going on out there," Kennedy asked? "Did you see anything at the window? Could more of those things be coming here, or is it something worse . . ." Quickly, Jupiter cut him off.

"Like a puppy," Jupiter said. "Where`s a rolled up newspaper when I ask one? Perhaps a good spell or two might teach you to be such a motor mouth."

"Stop it," Alexander demanded! "Elvish troops, headed this way."

"We should admonish them," Kennedy said.

"No, we shouldn`t," Alexander said. "I`m a Half-Orc. The Commandant and the Lieutenant are full Orcs. One looking at them, or at me, and we`re all dead."

"Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!" Florida`s screams echoed through the hallway, and captured everyone`s attention.

"Florida," Kennedy called out! "Hang on, sis, I`m coming!"

"Hold fast," Alexander declared! He pulled on Jupiter`s leash, practically dragging him, as the boys ran down that direction.

The pediatrics ward was demolished, and bodies were everywhere. All of them in a sickening state. Clearly, the zombies did not spare children, making this ward an effective buffet for the zombies once the adults were killed. Only two adult bodies could be found, and one was almost the door. It was formerly a man, with a sword. He only tried to represent the helpless sick children in this ward when everyone else either died or fled. And he failed, because there were too many zombies for him to take off. The second adult body was another nurse, who had collected as many children as she could to her in a low room. She had tried to stop this room, but it was no use. When the first nurse died, the zombies crowded the room, overwhelmed her barrier, and had a feast.

"Florida," Kennedy exclaimed! The boys soon found her, gagging and vomiting in a sink. For she had ground the board where the kids had been collected and killed. It traumatized her. Kennedy ran to his sister, and hugged her. She jumped.

"Ah!" She looked round her, noticed it was only Kennedy, and resumed vomiting. This time, she vomited on his feet. Hastily, he stepped out of the cat and kicked off his footwear. And as he backed up, he stepped on a dog tag.

"What`s this?" He held out his hand, creating a fire of water. It washed the dog tag clean and washed by the origin and guts, and fragments of the body. Then he picked up the dog tag, and held it. "Patrarchius Windsor."

"Windsor," Jupiter asked? Jupiter had started reading the name plaques that hung on the bed, which included the nurses` notes for the children. "Ophelia Windsor, cancer, prognosis, terminal, treatments given, blah, blah, blah. Age, twelve."

"What in Rellium happened here," Alexander shouted, demandingly?

"A massacre," Florida said. Then she vomited again. And so she cried.

"Bet if we looked, we`d find her in that stack of a room," Jupiter announced. "Her mother was a soldier. When everything else went to pot, he got smart, but not wise enough. He came in here."

"With a nurse who liked to clear barricades," Florida commented.

"Probably the only nurse who put the needs of her patients, these innocent kids, over her own," Jupiter stated. "She and Ophelia`s father teamed up to protect the kids, but they got overwhelmed."

"And so they died," Florida cried.

"But they died fighting," Alexander said. "Unlike the cowards who panicked and fled."

"Fighting or not, they still died," Kennedy said. "And we will too, if we rest on this island. I say we get out of here, now!"

"And go where," Florida asked? "We can`t leave."

"Not with the Elves coming for us," Alexander said.

"Elves? Oh terrific," Florida complained. And so she vomited once more.

"Bang, bang, bang, bang!" This captured everyone`s attention. Slowly, each of the four looked at each other.

"Where did that follow from," Kennedy asked?

"From this bathroom over here," Alexander said. "Take the leash, Kennedy." He passed the three to Kennedy, while he came over to the bathroom.

"Bang, bang, bang, bang!"

"Hello," Alexander called out? "Can you give the threshold?" He checked the lock. It would not budge. "Oh damn. Hold on, now. I`m going to aid you." Kennedy walked over to Alexander.

"Please, reconsider," Kennedy beseeched.

"There is someone trapped in there," Alexander said. "We get to aid them."

"But what if it is one of them," Kennedy asked? Alexander ignored him, and forcefully kicked down the door. As shortly as he did, no one was there.

"What in Rellium is this," Alexander inquired? He stepped into the room.

"Argh!" On his right, a twelve-year old girl stepped out of the lavish and tested to sting him. It simply took him a pair of moments to see she was a zombie. As she tried to sting him, he dodged her, escaping her fatal mouth. Then he kicked her with a roundhouse kick. She hit her mind on the bathroom sink, and her blood sprayed out. Alexander ducked, using the throne to shelter his face. But Kennedy got sprayed right in the face, and more seriously, in the eyes.

"Oh, damn it," Kennedy cried out. He dropped the leash. Florida stood up from her vomiting to wait at Kennedy, and Jupiter quickly discovered that he was free. So he took the prospect he had been waiting for, and quietly fled from the room. The girl reached out and grabbed Alexander. He tore himself free, but found himself trapped with his support to the wall. Slowly, the girl moved in for the kill. Florida stepped in, and unleashed a shell of fuel that incinerated the daughter to ashes in mere moments, saving Alexander from attack. Kennedy used his own shirt to remove the blood from his face, removing his shirt.

"Thanks," Alexander said.

"You`re welcome," Florida said. "Ophelia, I presume."

"Wouldn`t surprise me," Alexander said.

"Do you two mind moving," Kennedy barked. Sullenly, he pushed them both out of the bathroom, stepped over the burning ash that was formerly a girl, then a zombie, pulled the curtain, and started the shower. He dropped his pants and underwear, and so his shirt.

"Are you all right," Florida asked, compassionately?

"Just get me some clean clothes, please," Kennedy asked? "Including new shoes."

"Got it," Florida said. "You sure you`re okay?"

"Just crazy to my stomach," Kennedy said. Florida grabbed her own stomach.

"I love exactly how you feel," she replied. Then she left to run down clean clothes for Kennedy.

"Wait a second, here, Kennedy," Alexander said. "Who`s got Jupiter`s leash?"

"Oh. Oh-oh," Kennedy said.

"Oh-oh? Ken, you`re a fool," Alexander barked out!

"I didn`t give the doorway in a point where we live there were zombies, did I? This is your fault, not mine!" Alexander had never heard Kennedy so wild in his total life.

"We`ll discuss this later."

"No we won`t," Kennedy said. "I`m not taking orders from you any longer! Now you go catch Jupiter Snake before he pulls something!" The strength of Kennedy`s rage surprised Alexander, and intimidated him. He had never seen this position of him before, and he was not nigh to get caught in the full force he could feel brewing within his old friend. So Alexander left to hunt down Jupiter.

Jupiter ran through the hallway. Driven by the fragrance of death, an ability he had gained a long time ago from a wolfish adversary he had engrossed the burden of, Jupiter knew just where he was going. Fleet as he could be, he headed directly toward the morgue. It was on the 4th floor as well, but well hidden behind an iron wall. Coming toward the wall, Jupiter stopped. He did not see a way through. Scanning with his eyes, he could not see any possible way through. But his nose told him just what he required to know.

"Jupiter," Alexander called out! "Stop right where you are!"

"It seems I make no choice," Jupiter responded. "At least, it seems that way."

"What are you talk about," Alexander asked? He snatched the leash, which laid upon the ground.

"Leash he holds, become my name, and realize this boy helpless and lame," Jupiter chanted. The leash transformed into a dangerous snake.

"No," Alexander said. Before Alexander could react, the snake bit him. "Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!"

"That takes charge of you, Alexander Sheridan," Jupiter said. Alexander threw the snake down, and he wrathfully grabbed his arm.

"Wrong move," Alexander said. He shut his eyes and concentrated. Jupiter turned his support on him, and moved the iron wall. As for the snake, he slithered away, moving through the hospital hall at a speedy pace.

"Wall of iron, earth still rules all," Jupiter cast. "But round this from iron to a paper wall." Grey magic flashed over the wall, weakening its force and structure. Though it looked just the same externally, anyone could say that the wall, once yet another barrier built by the hospital staff here, now could hardly stop a sneeze.

"Oh," Alexander moaned. "God, oh."

"Now if you`ll pardon me," Jupiter said. "I get something to do and places to be. Happy dying." And Jupiter arose into the air, and flew away, a hysterical madman. Alexander continued to hold his arm, forcing his powers to work. Finally, the snake`s venom secreted out of his trunk and onto his arm, and a ripple of poison formed about it, trapping the venom within it. So Alexander threw his arm into the air, and the bubble fell off his arm, drawing the snake`s venom with it. The twin contagions landed on the hospital floor.

"That won`t work, Jupiter," Alexander said. "I am the poison master." And Alexander turned at once, and ran right after Jupiter. "Now I will poison you!" Alexander failed to notice that, slowly, hands were pressing through what was formerly an iron wall. Now it was just paper, and a tiny little tear began to develop.
