Kylie Minogue – The homo-erotic drag queen dream you've ever wanted

My favorite thing about having a lot of friends who know music in New York City is that I look like I am ALWAYS unexpectedly going to see concerts and shows last minute. I`ve always enjoyed Kylie Minogue, but never enough to spend 100 bones to go see her show. Last night (thanks to my friend Dan Chiz having flakey friends) was invited to go experience "Aphrodite Live" for free!

I don`t know if I`ve always been to a concert of an artist who released four studio albums before I was 5 days old, but for a 42 year old pop singer Kylie looked fantastic. She is absolutely stunning in person, and has a set of pipes that completely surprised me.

That being said, this was also BY FAR_ the gayest_ most homo-erotic_ drag queen dream_ extravaganza eleganza that could always be thought up. Seriously, I grew up being the biggest Spice Girls fan on this position of the Mississippi, I`ve seen Britney in concert, I`ve watched my part of gay porn, and hell, I`ve even partaken in the joys of gay sex first hand_ but NOTHING and I say NOTHING I`ve always done is gayer than that concert.

Let`s begin with the obvious, the dancers. Hot, ripped, barely wearing any clothes, or in elaborate costumes, not merely allowed to but sometimes encouraged to be a bit flamboyant, dancing, many times with each other (including once scene where the guys were really holding the former male dancers upside down, with their legs wrapped round their body and drumming the dead on their backsides) - It was like watching hot concert porn.

There are the background videos, opening underwater shots of men in speedos elegantly moving, followed with a bulk of equally sexy shots of nearly naked men dancing. The gift of the female dancers is unmatched buy even they were dolled up like drag queens. The elaborate feathery costumes, the pop-dance music, oh and lets not leave the concert hall crammed with more gay men than Kathy Griffin`s closet. Yep, it was rather a gay evening.

But let`s get support to the picture itself. I was appalled at how many large set pieces (including a giant golden Pegasus, a monumental statue of Kylie`s head, and Nativity Of Venus style half shell) fit in the Hammerstein ballroom. It was as if there was a football field sized room of props and costumes hiding somewhere behind the set.

All in all I got what I wanted from the experience, it was glitzy and fun. Everyone in the locale was dancing and having a grand time. It was more of a festivity of spirit and passion than a concert, fully furnished with feathers, sequins, and an explosion of silver confetti.
